Privacy notice
What we ask for, what for, and how to have it deleted.
Who is responsible
Memex is the project responsible for the processing of your personal data under the Mexican Federal Law on the Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties (LFPDPPP).
The legal entity behind the project is being incorporated. Once it exists we will update this notice with its registered name and address, and tell you by email before that takes effect.
In the meantime the channel for anything to do with personal data is privacidad@memex.lat, answered directly by the person running the project.
What we collect
Only what the site needs to work. We do not ask for your name, your phone number or your date of birth.
| Data | When we get it |
|---|---|
| Email address | When you sign up for the launch notice or reserve a username. |
| The username you picked | When you reserve a name. |
| Language (Spanish or English) | Whichever you were using, so we write to you in it. |
| IP address | On each reservation or availability check, to rate-limit abuse. |
| Pages visited | A per-day, per-page count. It is an aggregate and is not linked to you. |
We set no cookies of our own. The site does load Google Analytics, which uses cookies and processes your IP address; any tracker blocker will stop it without breaking the site.
What we use it for
Necessary purposes — without these we cannot provide the service:
- Confirming the address is yours before we store it (double opt-in).
- Holding the username you picked until launch.
- Sending you the code that claims that username inside the app.
- Preventing abuse: per-IP limits and a captcha.
Additional purposes — you can refuse these and keep everything above:
- Telling you about the launch and major project news.
To refuse the additional purposes, reply to any of our emails or write to privacidad@memex.lat asking to be taken off the list. Your username reservation is unaffected.
Who it is shared with
We do not sell your data and we do not hand it to anyone for advertising. To run the site we rely on these providers, which process the data on our behalf and only for what is listed here:
| Provider | What for | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Brevo | Sending the emails | Your address and the message body |
| Cloudflare | Hosting, database and captcha | Your address, username and IP |
| Google Analytics | Measuring site visits | Your IP and browsing data |
These providers are outside Mexico, so your data is processed abroad. We make no other transfer unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Unconfirmed reservation: 7 days. After that it is deleted and the username is free again.
- Confirmed reservation and its code: until 31 August 2027.
- Your address on the list: until you ask us to remove it.
- Your IP: in short windows for the rate limits (one hour for submissions, 24 hours for availability checks). It expires on its own.
Your rights
You may ask us to access your data, correct it if it is wrong, delete it, or object to our using it — the ARCO rights. You may also withdraw your consent at any time.
Write to privacidad@memex.lat from the address you want to see or delete, saying what you need. We answer within 20 business days at the latest, and we do not charge for it.
If you believe we handled your request badly, you can take it to Mexico's data protection authority, INAI.
Changes to this notice
If this changes we update the date above and publish the new version at memex.lat/privacy.html. If the change is significant we tell you by email before it takes effect.
